Fatal Windsor crash follows failed police traffic stop, SIU investigating

Google News CA — Crime (EN) reports that Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has opened an investigation after a 33-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle collision in Windsor on Sunday afternoon.

A Windsor police officer spotted "a pickup truck of interest" travelling northbound on St. Luke Road at approximately 4 p.m. and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The truck did not comply, instead continuing northbound at high speed, according to the SIU.

The fleeing pickup subsequently struck two other vehicles in the area of St. Luke Road and Seminole Street, one of which was a Dodge Journey. The driver of that SUV sustained injuries and later died.

The SIU issued a public statement Monday calling for witnesses, video footage, or photographs related to the incident and urged anyone with relevant information to contact the agency directly.

The SIU is a civilian oversight body that operates independently of police and conducts criminal investigations into incidents involving officers that result in serious injury, death, firearm discharge at a person, or allegations of sexual assault.
