Google News CA — Crime (EN) reports that Ismail Abdihakim Ali, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder following a house fire on St. John's Avenue in north Winnipeg that killed one man and left two others with severe burns.
Winnipeg Police Service officers arrived at the scene just before 10:30 p.m. on Thursday to find three people with what police described as life-altering burns: a 35-year-old man, a 53-year-old man, and a 31-year-old woman. All three were transported to hospital; the woman was treated and released.
The 35-year-old man, identified Monday by police as Mark Bosadas Marmeto, died from his injuries on Saturday.
Ali was arrested at the scene and initially charged with aggravated assault, arson causing bodily harm, arson causing damage to property, possession of incendiary material, and break and enter and commit arson in a dwelling house.
Manitoba Justice subsequently authorized the upgraded charges of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder, according to a Monday news release from the Winnipeg Police Service.
