Vancouver Sun Crime reports that Delta police are investigating after a woman's body was discovered in a field on River Road following a fire Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called to a blaze in the 6400-block of River Road at approximately 6:10 a.m. After first responders extinguished the fire, they found a woman's body at the scene.

"Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and confirm the identity of the deceased," Staff Sgt. Mike Whiteley said in a statement.

The 6400-block of River Road is a sparsely populated stretch, with industrial buildings on the north side and farmland to the south.

Police are asking anyone who drove through that block in the early morning hours to come forward and share anything they may have observed. Authorities are particularly interested in dashcam footage recorded in the area.
