A navigational error on the evening of Sept. 19 led to the arrest of two men on kidnapping charges in Sault Ste. Marie, Global News Crime reports.

A 40-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie and a 29-year-old from Sudbury picked up a 15-year-old earlier that day. The teenager was allegedly not permitted to leave the vehicle, according to police.

The men were driving the victim toward a hotel when they mistakenly turned onto the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge. Upon attempting to re-enter Canada, Canada Border Services Agency officers intercepted and detained them at 10:15 p.m. after observing the youth in the vehicle.

Sault Ste. Marie police subsequently took both men into custody. They have been charged with kidnapping and remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
