Authorities in Nicosia placed two men under detention this weekend in relation to a costly residential intrusion that unfolded during August. A family member informed investigators on the first of September that strangers had unlawfully entered the dwelling and removed possessions including canvases, dining silver and household fittings collectively valued above €10,000, Cyprus Mail reports.
Investigators gathered statements and secured judicial approval to apprehend a 41-year-old and a 44-year-old. The younger individual was taken in on 2 September; a sweep of his property yielded materials suspected of belonging to the loot, which were taken as proof. A day later, magistrates at the district tribunal in the capital ruled he should stay behind bars for eight days.
The older detainee was seized in the early hours of Sunday and produced before the same bench later that day, receiving a five-day custody term.
Both are now subject to inquiries on accusations of plotting a serious offense, unlawful entry, larceny and willful destruction.
