Law enforcement detained eight individuals during a Saturday night sweep across Cyprus. Officers handed out 329 traffic penalties, nearly a third of which were for exceeding speed limits.

Those taken into custody faced accusations ranging from holding narcotics and driving under the influence to lacking legal authorisation to remain on the island.

Throughout the crackdown, personnel pulled over 511 motor vehicles and screened 652 people behind the wheel or riding as passengers.

Authorities also visited 58 establishments, filing eight reports from these inspections.

Breath tests numbered 291, with thirty showing alcohol above permitted levels. Officers also performed ten on-the-spot checks for substances; six came back positive. Twenty-two automobiles were seized during the course of the action.
