Netanyahu initiates aviation security review after cockpit attack
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is ordering a review of security on international flights heading to Israel, after a co-pilot attacked the pilot with an axe inside the cockpit of a Flydubai aircraft on Wednesday. This was reported by AFP according to B.T. on Sunday.
The aircraft descended thousands of metres in a very short time during the incident. The top prosecutor in the United Arab Emirates declared on Saturday that the co-pilot attempted to carry out a "terrorist attack". The axe that was used is typically stored in the cockpit and is designed for emergencies.
Netanyahu has asked the head of the country's national security council, Shmuel Ben Ezra, to designate a person to review security around civil aviation to Israel.
The Israeli Prime Minister has previously stated that the co-pilot had undergone "Islamist radical indoctrination", and added that a motive has not yet been established.
