Pursuit and detention in the capital city centre
Canal13sanjuan.com reports that a 43-year-old man, with a criminal record for crimes against property, was apprehended on Tuesday following a pursuit on foot and by bicycle through central streets of the San Juan capital.
The incident began on General Acha Street, when police officers observed an individual circulating on Brazil Street aboard a black bicycle with green trim, travelling west to east. The man was known to police personnel due to previous cases linked to property crimes.
When attempting to intercept him, the man rejected the order to stop and executed a deliberate manoeuvre to destabilise the police vehicle, positioning himself in front of the vehicle before fleeing eastward along Brazil Street.
Resistance and apprehension on Lavalle Street
The individual attempted to take refuge in a residence on Lavalle Street, before the intersection with Mariano Moreno Street. There the responding officers caught up with him, but the man offered physical resistance: he threw punches and kicks at the officers. He was finally subdued and apprehended.
The detained man identified himself as Ortega, 43 years of age. During a search, officers noticed the presence of white powder in his nostrils, with apparent characteristics of narcotics.
Additionally, Ortega was unable to prove ownership of the Fire Bird bicycle, 26-inch wheel, which he was operating at the time of the intervention. For this reason he was taken to police headquarters to continue with the corresponding proceedings.
