Detained in Ushuaia after attempting to take girl contacted on the internet

A 23-year-old man was arrested on Monday 2 June outside the Colegio Integral de Educación in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, after attempting to forcibly take a 12-year-old adolescent with whom he had established contact through social media, delsurdiario.com reported.

The incident occurred near the entrance during the afternoon shift. The accused, identified as Francisco Joel Sebastián Álvarez Ruiz, approached the minor as she was leaving the establishment and attempted to grab her. The adolescent managed to break free with the help of other students and took refuge inside the institution.

Álvarez Ruiz did not leave the scene. Instead, he smashed the glass panel of one of the school's doors in an attempt to enter the building. Police intervened immediately and detained him on site, with the case being treated under flagrant offence procedures.

The judicial investigation is also examining a grooming complaint that the child's family had filed prior to this episode. According to the case, the messages exchanged would have included threats and explicit warnings that the accused would travel from Buenos Aires to Tierra del Fuego to pick her up from school.

The man had arrived in Ushuaia from the federal capital specifically for that purpose, according to information gathered by authorities. The case remains ongoing.
