When the driver spotted the patrol car, he accelerated sharply according to police statements. The 16-year-old is said to have performed several risky overtaking manoeuvres, crossed solid lines and ignored a stop sign.
Eventually, the teenager from Linz-Land district abandoned the vehicle at a petrol station and fled on foot together with his 18-year-old passenger from Perg district. The officers immediately began pursuit and were able to catch up with and detain the 16-year-old after a short time. According to police, the 18-year-old returned to the parked vehicle of her own accord.
During the subsequent vehicle inspection, officers secured a loaded blank-firing pistol. The number plates mounted on the car had been reported as stolen. In addition, the teenager had no valid driving licence.
