Fraud on Social Media: Wolfsberg Woman Loses Several Thousand Euros

Fake merchant orders cost Wolfsberg woman thousands of euros

As reported by Kleine Zeitung, a 41-year-old woman from Wolfsberg came across what appeared to be a lucrative side-income offer on social media. She made contact with the alleged employer via a messenger service.

Initially, she was asked to rate and like various items – for which she actually received smaller payments. Subsequently, she was offered so-called merchant orders with high profit potential, whereupon she transferred larger sums of money several times.

When the woman wanted to withdraw her promised "profit," she was pressured to make further payments. The justification included claims that her account had been blocked and needed to be unlocked first. Only when faced with another high payment demand did the Wolfsberg woman become suspicious and file a report. Although part of the money was reimbursed, she suffered a loss of several thousand euros.
