The man contacted police at 3.40 a.m. and stated that he had set his husband's residential house on fire. The fire brigade was immediately alerted via the state control centre. When they arrived, the roof structure was already completely ablaze. The fire was extinguished by 6.00 a.m. There were no persons in the house at that time, and no injuries were reported.
The suspect was stopped and arrested during a search on a field path between Altenmarkt and Ungersdorf. According to police information, he is believed to have been heavily intoxicated at the time of the offence.
During questioning, the 40-year-old stated that he had ignited flammable objects with a lighter. He cited a dispute with his husband as the motive. On the orders of the public prosecutor's office, he was transferred to Korneuburg correctional facility.
The residential house was completely destroyed in the fire. The exact amount of damage is not yet determined, but according to police is likely to be in the low six-figure range.
