As reported by Google News AT — Crime (de), plainclothes officers arrested a 31-year-old Algerian on Sunday, 30 August 2026, at around 16:45 in Vienna after observing him selling two sachets of marijuana — approximately 2.4 grammes total — for 20 euros. During the arrest, the man threw away a further sachet. Officers additionally seized ten sachets containing approximately 4.9 grammes of cocaine and 95 euros in cash.
During the operation, two passers-by filmed the plainclothes police officers and loudly expressed their disapproval. After criminal investigators pointed out the possible legal consequences of publication, the two quickly left.
Shortly after 17:00, officers then observed a 27-year-old Syrian who sold 1.6 grammes of marijuana for ten euros. He had previously retrieved the drug from a hiding place deposited nearby. Upon his arrest, officers secured the cache containing a further approximately 10.7 grammes of marijuana and 205 euros in cash.
Both suspects were issued with access bans to the protection zone at Keplerplatz. Both were subsequently taken to the correctional facility.
