According to a report from wien.ORF.at, Vienna police dismantled an alleged drug-dealing group within three days, seizing nearly 13 kilograms of cannabis, approximately 61 grams of cocaine, and several thousand euros in cash.
The starting point was surveillance conducted by officers from the street crime taskforce in Vienna-Simmering. The officers observed two men handing over a bag. The recipient got into a taxi, which police stopped shortly after. The suspect — a 27-year-old Algerian — resisted arrest and injured two police officers in the process. The bag contained approximately 8.5 kilograms of cannabis.
The second man, who had handed over the bag, was also arrested. During a subsequent voluntary flat search, officers found four Austrian citizens aged 33 and 36 on the premises. A further approximately 4.3 kilograms of cannabis and 61 grams of cocaine were seized there.
The investigation eventually led to an alleged accomplice for whom a warrant had been issued. A small quantity of methamphetamine and cash were seized from the 25-year-old Syrian. Immediately before being handed over to the judiciary, the man reached for a loaded pistol, which he had hidden in his underwear. Police officers were able to remove the weapon in time. The suspect was taken into custody at Vienna-Josefstadt correctional facility.
