Within three days, Vienna police have broken up an alleged drug dealer network and seized approximately 13 kilograms of marijuana, around 61 grams of cocaine, and several thousand euros in cash. The operation began with surveillance by officers from the street crime task force in the Simmering district. The officers observed two men exchanging a bag. The recipient got into a taxi, which was stopped shortly afterwards. The 27-year-old Algerian resisted arrest and injured two police officers in the process. The bag contained approximately 8.5 kilograms of marijuana.
The man who handed over the bag was also arrested. During a subsequent voluntary flat search, officers found four Austrian citizens aged 33 and 36. They seized a further 4.3 kilograms of marijuana and 61 grams of cocaine there.
Further investigations led to a 25-year-old Syrian against whom an arrest warrant existed. A small quantity of methamphetamine and cash were seized from him. Immediately before being handed over to the judiciary, the man reached for a loaded pistol concealed in his underwear. Police officers disarmed him in time. The suspect was taken to Vienna-Josefstadt prison.
