Drug raid in Vienna-Simmering: 13 kg marijuana, cocaine and loaded pistol seized
Investigators arrested multiple suspects between Wednesday and Friday. A 25-year-old attempted to draw a pistol concealed in his underwear.
Drug gang dismantled in Vienna – arrests and weapons discovery
As reported by Kronen Zeitung, officers from the street crime unit (EGS) dismantled an alleged drug gang in Vienna-Simmering between Wednesday and Friday. In total, investigators seized nearly 13 kilogrammes of marijuana, around 61 grammes of cocaine and several thousand euros in cash.
Bag handover triggers operation
The operation began with surveillance: investigators observed the handover of a bag between two men. The alleged recipient, a 27-year-old, subsequently got into a taxi. Officers stopped the vehicle – the man reportedly put up fierce resistance. Two police officers were slightly injured in the process.
In the bag, investigators found around 8.5 kilogrammes of marijuana. The alleged person who handed over the bag, a 33-year-old Austrian, was also arrested on the spot.
Further drugs discovered in flat
During a voluntary search of a flat, officers encountered further men. There they seized an additional around 4.3 kilogrammes of marijuana as well as 61 grammes of cocaine. Further arrests followed.
25-year-old draws loaded weapon
In the course of further investigations, a 25-year-old came into the focus of the EGS, against whom an arrest warrant was already in place. When he was arrested, officers found a small quantity of methamphetamine as well as cash on him.
The critical moment occurred during a search before his transfer to custody: the suspect allegedly attempted to draw a loaded pistol from his underwear. According to police, officers prevented this through use of force and secured the weapon.
The 25-year-old was subsequently transferred to Vienna-Josefstadt remand prison. The investigations are ongoing.
