A former senior official of the Austrian constitutional protection service has been sentenced to several years in prison in Vienna.

Former BVT Chief Sentenced to Prison for Abuse of Office and Espionage
A former senior official of the dissolved Federal Office for Constitutional Protection and Counter-Terrorism (BVT) was sentenced by a jury court in Vienna on Wednesday. The man, who previously worked as chief inspector, was found guilty of abuse of office and espionage. The judges imposed a prison sentence of more than four years. Source: Der Standard
A further former BVT employee, a former group inspector, was also found guilty. He was likewise accused of abuse of office and breach of confidentiality obligations.
The convicted former chief inspector stated he intended to appeal the verdict. He also announced that he would lodge a petition for review.
