Vienna's nature conservation authorities (Naturwacht) discovered an unauthorised camp during patrols in the recreation area between Alter Donau and Lobau. Officers found large quantities of rubbish at the site, as well as apparently stolen items.
Among the secured objects were bicycles, electrical appliances, bulky waste, a credit card, scrap metal and tents. Particularly disturbing was the discovery of a dead fox that had been hung with fishing line.
The authorities are now investigating whether an organised group from Eastern Europe is responsible for the illegal activities. The site is located in a popular recreation area in the Austrian capital that is repeatedly affected by illegal camps.
