Knife and wooden stick: 30-year-old brutally attacked in Vienna-Liesing
A 30-year-old man was attacked by two unknown assailants with a knife and wooden stick in Vienna-Liesing on Saturday evening. The motive remains unclear, and the perpetrators are at large.
Brutal attack in Vienna-Liesing: victim flees multiple times from attackers
Loud screams alerted residents on Saturday evening at around 22:00 outside a residential building in Vienna-Liesing. According to the Kronen Zeitung, a 30-year-old man was attacked by two men so far unidentified – one armed with a knife, the other with a wooden stick.
The incident began when the man was trying to leave his flat and was approached by the two perpetrators even before the building entrance. What caused the situation to escalate is unclear according to police. Shortly afterwards, the attackers set upon the 30-year-old with blows and kicks.
Multiple pursuit through the night
The victim initially managed to flee – but the perpetrators caught up with him and attacked him again. During a further assault, the pair knocked the man to the ground and attacked him with a knife. "The man was only able to ward off the attack with his arms and a metal rod," said police spokesperson Irina Steirer. The victim had picked up the metal rod during his flight to defend himself against further blows.
Only after residents alerted the police did the perpetrators stop and flee. An immediate manhunt proved unsuccessful.
Investigation underway, motive unknown
The 30-year-old was treated on the spot by Vienna's professional rescue service. The motive for the attack remains completely unclear. Police have launched an investigation; the two perpetrators remain unknown and at large.
