Husband threatens family in Vienna-Favoriten and is arrested

Officers from the Favoriten district police command were deployed on Wednesday evening following a call after a 37-year-old woman had apparently sought shelter at a neighbour's apartment. According to Kronen Zeitung, the woman was already waiting for police in the neighbour's flat when they arrived.

During initial investigations, serious allegations against the husband came to light. The 37-year-old is alleged to have repeatedly physically attacked his wife during arguments in the past. He is also said to have become violent towards their shared minor children.

Particularly grave is the allegation that the man threatened to kill both his wife and the children.

At the time of the operation, the 37-year-old was not in the apartment. However, whilst police were recording the details of the incident, he returned to the residential address. Officers thereupon arrested him provisionally. The man denied all allegations made against him.

Police imposed a restraining order and prohibition on approaching the victim, as well as a provisional weapons ban on the man. He is currently in police custody. Further investigations are ongoing.

People who witness violence or are themselves victims of violence can reach the police emergency line on 133. The Vienna State Criminal Office also offers personal consultations through its crime prevention hotline on 0800 216346.
