A woman in her thirties was found unresponsive early in the morning of 1 June outside the entrance to her flat on Weyringergasse in Vienna's Wieden district. Passers-by discovered the severely injured woman around 6 a.m. and immediately alerted emergency services. The professional ambulance service provided emergency medical care and subsequently transported her to a hospital.
According to police spokesperson Irina Steirer, the woman suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. She cannot remember either the incident itself or the hours before it. Due to these memory gaps, questioning conducted so far has yielded no new findings.
When found, the woman, who appeared to be in her early thirties, was wearing pyjamas – an orange short-sleeved top and dark blue shorts. She was barefoot. Given the circumstances in which she was discovered, investigators do not rule out the possibility that a violent crime may have occurred. It remains unclear whether the injuries were sustained inside the building or also on the street.
Vienna police are therefore urgently requesting information from the public. Anyone who was in the Weyringergasse between 11 p.m. on 31 May and 6 a.m. on 1 June and made observations related to a young woman is asked to come forward.
