Since early May 2026, unknown criminals have deceived a 77-year-old resident of the Carinthian state capital and deprived him of a five-figure sum in euros.
The fraudsters convinced the pensioner that existing funds could be paid out to him as digital currencies. Based on this deception, the victim repeatedly made transfers to the perpetrators.
The perpetrators made initial contact by telephone. The means by which they obtained the victim's telephone number is currently unknown.
The total damage to the Klagenfurt resident amounts to several tens of thousands of euros. The search for those responsible is ongoing.
