Taxi driver, 67, robbed and injured in Vienna-Floridsdorf – 19-year-old arrested

A 19-year-old Austrian was arrested following a brutal robbery of a taxi driver in Vienna-Floridsdorf. The victim sustained a head wound.

According to the Kronen Zeitung, a 19-year-old Austrian was provisionally arrested at his residential address on the evening of 24 August 2026 – with support from the Cobra special operations unit. Previously, in the night leading into Sunday, he and an accomplice had robbed and injured a taxi driver in Vienna-Floridsdorf.

The robbery occurred at approximately 02:05. The 67-year-old taxi driver had driven two passengers from Vienna-Brigittenau to Oswald-Redlich-Straße in Vienna-Floridsdorf. When he stopped there, one of the two men struck him on the head.

The attacker then threatened the driver with what appeared to be a firearm and took his wallet. He then fled in the direction of a nearby municipal housing block. The second passenger is said to have left the scene before the attack.

After the assault, the victim independently sought out a police station. The 67-year-old was taken by ambulance to a hospital – he had a bleeding wound on his head.

The Vienna State Criminal Office, Northern Branch, Robbery Investigation Department, immediately took over the investigation. Officers managed, in a short time, to identify one of the suspects by name. The arrest of the 19-year-old was carried out on the order of the Vienna State Prosecutor's Office; the Cobra special operations unit was deployed in the process.

The suspect refused to make a statement. On the order of the Vienna State Prosecutor's Office, he was transferred to a penal institution. According to the police, the search for the second man involved is proceeding at full speed.
