The public prosecutor's office and an investigating judge were alerted immediately. A forensic pathologist and the scientific police laboratory were mobilised at the scene. The exact circumstances of the events remain to be established.
A damaged vehicle was present at the location, with a visible bullet hole. Residents claim to have heard gunfire, but the Liège public prosecutor's office has not confirmed this information. The prosecutor's office stated: "It is premature to communicate additional information at this stage."
The victim was identified as Nabil Moujahid, a man in his forties from Ans and father of two young daughters. His father, Lahoussine, testified: "He was a very kind man to everyone. His daughters adored him and just yesterday he was at home eating with us."
Nabil Moujahid had worked as a lorry driver. According to Aziz, a close friend, he had stopped working following his marital separation. "He was very sad and depressed," he said. The victim's father is also concerned about his wife's health: "I don't know how his mother will cope with the blow. She is very ill and her son obviously meant a great deal to her." Aziz added: "There will be a lot of people at the mosque to say goodbye to him, he had many friends."
