Tatiana Marset: hospitalised in Santa Cruz and linked to seizures of precursors in Paraguay

Tatiana Marset remains hospitalised in a private clinic in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and has not yet been transferred to Palmasola prison, where she must serve preventive detention. According to reports from El Deber, her situation coincides with an investigation in Paraguay that allegedly links her to two shipments of ethyl acetate, a chemical precursor used in the manufacture of cocaine.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, 27 October, the sister of Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset temporarily left the medical centre to undergo specialist tests and returned shortly afterwards by ambulance, escorted by police officers. She remains under police custody pending medical authorisation for her discharge.

On 19 October, a judge revoked her house arrest after evaluating a report on the alleged breach of the conditions that allowed her to work outside her home. Once she is discharged, the authorities plan her immediate transfer to Palmasola.

Paraguay seizes 139 drums of precursors destined for Bolivia

Whilst awaiting that transfer, Paraguayan authorities are investigating two seizures of ethyl acetate that, according to the investigation, would be destined for Bolivia and could belong to the same supply network.

The most recent operation was carried out on Saturday, 24 October in Mariano Roque Alonso, where anti-drugs agents seized 80 drums of the substance, equivalent to approximately 16,000 litres. Four men were charged and sent to preventive detention.

Investigators maintain that the shipment was going to be concealed under sand during transport to Bolivian territory. Two of those involved allegedly attempted to bribe the agents to recover the merchandise.

This seizure is in addition to the one carried out on 7 October in San Lorenzo, where authorities found another 59 drums containing approximately 11,800 litres of the same substance. In total, both operations resulted in the seizure of 139 drums, equivalent to approximately 27,800 litres of ethyl acetate.

Investigation into alleged telephone contacts with Tatiana Marset

In the first case, Paraguayan investigators identified one of the detainees as Uruguayan Hugo Javier F. S., who allegedly was responsible for acquiring the precursors and coordinating their transport to Bolivia. According to the investigation, he allegedly maintained telephone communications with Tatiana Marset, whom they are investigating for her possible involvement in the receipt or payment of the shipments.

Authorities are seeking to establish who financed the purchase of the chemical products, how their transport was organised, and who the final recipients were.

Tatiana Marset's alleged involvement in the second seizure has not been publicly confirmed and continues under investigation. Ethyl acetate has legitimate industrial uses, but can also be employed in processes related to illegal cocaine production, which is why authorities are seeking to determine the destination and purpose of the seized volumes.
