In a residence in the municipality of La Guardia, in the Bolivian department of Santa Cruz, law enforcement officers conducted a raid on Friday that resulted in five people of Paraguayan nationality being taken into custody and the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics.
The head of the Police in Santa Cruz, David Gómez, confirmed that the operation took place at a private home where four men and one woman were found, all from the neighbouring country. Inside the residence, four packages were discovered that apparently contained cocaine.
Following the intervention, the investigation was handed over to the Special Force to Combat Drug Trafficking (Felcn) and the Public Ministry, which must conduct tests to establish the nature and purity of the products found.
Dimar Caprirolo, head of the Felcn, itemised what was seized: almost 38 kilograms of cocaine base, 1.7 kilos of cannabis and 1.1 kilos of cocaine hydrochloride. Two heavy trucks with their flatbeds were also retained, along with a shipment of urea. During the early morning, canine units inspected the vehicles to verify whether they concealed further contraband.
A detail that drew the attention of the authorities is that one of the arrested individuals had previously been convicted in Paraguayan territory for offences related to drug trafficking and armed robbery. Gómez highlighted that there is active cooperation with police forces from different nations to cross-reference data on suspects.
