Four raids on Senasag offices in connection with Mauricio Aramayo's murder in Tarija

Raids on Senasag reactivate investigation into former director's death in Tarija
Police and the Public Ministry carried out four simultaneous raids on Wednesday 9 September on Senasag offices located in Yacuiba, Villamontes and the city of Tarija, according to El Deber. The measure reactivates investigations into the murder of Mauricio Aramayo, former director of the institution.
During the operations, investigators seized documents, mobile phones and computer equipment. Additionally, two summonses were issued for two Senasag officials in Yacuiba, assigned to the Pajoso control post in the municipality of Yacuiba, to appear as witnesses.
The departmental prosecutor of Tarija, Lesly Tania Alemán Leaño, confirmed details of the procedure. "At this time documentation, mobile phones and computer equipment have been seized and two officials who are at the Pajoso control post in the municipality of Yacuiba have been called to give statements," she said.
Aramayo served as director of the National Service for Agricultural and Food Safety Sanitation (Senasag) in Tarija during the 2025 fiscal year, a position he left to participate in politics as a candidate for councillor. On 8 January 2026 he was shot dead after being attacked by armed individuals on a motorcycle; he was wounded inside his vehicle and died on the way to hospital. Aramayo was a close friend of president Rodrigo Paz.
As a result of the crime, five people are in custody: one in El Palmar prison in Yacuiba, another in Bermejo and three in Morros Blancos penal facility in Tarija.
Investigators do not rule out that, following the review of the documents and equipment seized, further people may be summoned to give statements.
