Wife of victim demands justice following murder in General Saavedra
Roy Tomichá, aged 33, was shot dead whilst waiting for transport in the community of Pico de Monte, municipality of General Saavedra, according to reports from El Deber. The man had gone out onto the street with the intention of travelling to Montero to visit his mother, who was admitted to a hospital in that city.
His wife recounted tearfully that, approximately 15 minutes after Tomichá left his home, she received news of the attack. Upon arriving at the scene, neighbours were attempting to help him, but he no longer had a pulse and resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
"My husband does not harm anyone. He was simply going out to catch a ride to go to Montero, to see his mother, who is in hospital," the woman told the media outlet El Espectador.
The family situation is particularly critical: his mother-in-law remains admitted to the third level of a hospital centre in Montero in a delicate state of health, and the man's death further worsens the household's economic needs. "He had many plans, he was young, he was 33 years old. We have a son," his wife expressed.
The woman warned that the insecurity in Pico de Monte is not an isolated occurrence and stated that other neighbours have already been victims of robberies in the area. According to accounts circulating among the residents, two young people and a pickup truck were reportedly seen in circumstances linked to the crime; however, investigators will need to verify that information.
Tomichá's wife called on the authorities to reinforce police presence in the sector and to install public lighting on the dark stretches of the community, pointing out that the lack of lighting increases the vulnerability of residents.
A neighbour and childhood companion of the victim backed the complaint and demanded that police and municipal authorities address the security demands. "The only thing I would ask is that those responsible for this crime are found," he stated, recalling the close ties that unite the members of the community.
The family awaits the outcome of investigations to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack, and demands that the case not go unpunished.
