Explosion at Viacha barracks: prosecutors identify point of origin and warn of risk of further detonations

Prosecutors point to "monobloc" as origin of tragedy at Bolívar barracks
The regional prosecutor for La Paz, Luis Carlos Torrez, confirmed on Wednesday that experts succeeded in determining the probable starting point of the explosion that occurred at the Bolívar barracks in Viacha. According to El Deber, Torrez stated at a press conference that "several experts have already been able to establish the point, the monobloc, as the point of origin where the explosion would have originated that, unfortunately, has claimed human lives".
The two detonations on Friday, 4 September, destroyed the military compound and several adjoining residences. The toll so far is nine dead and more than 80 injured—the Prosecutor's Office counts 81 and the Ministry of Health, 84—in addition to five people still reported as missing in the area.
Five days after the tragedy occurred, Torrez warned that the danger has not ended: "At the site there is still the presence of war material that could be susceptible to another explosion". For that reason, search and expert analysis work is being carried out in a coordinated and orderly manner, in order to avoid further casualties.
