Serial killer suspect captured in dress and wig after two-day manhunt in Brazil
Brazilian police arrested a suspected serial killer on Sunday after a two-day search, AP News reports. Jorlan Lopes da Silva, 33, was found wearing a black dress with white stripes, a wig and painted nails — and was carrying a child who, police confirmed, was not related to him.
Da Silva is suspected of killing at least 16 people in the Mulungu region of the northeastern state of Paraíba, roughly 2,500 kilometres north of Rio de Janeiro. Following his arrest, he confessed to an additional 11 killings, bringing the total to 27, according to Paraíba police spokeswoman Gerlane Pereira.
Pereira told AP that authorities intend to reopen dozens of cases potentially connected to da Silva. Police also arrested two other suspects linked to the same criminal organisation.
According to officers, da Silva told investigators he committed his first killing at the age of 13. Police describe him as a member of a criminal gang responsible for numerous deaths across the Mulungu area.
Two additional suspects connected to the same criminal network were taken into custody alongside da Silva.
