Operation arrests trio suspected of fraud in virtual purchases in eastern São Paulo
Officers from the Department of Strategic Police Operations (Dope) detained three people on Wednesday (4) in the eastern zone of São Paulo during an operation against fraud in internet purchases, according to agenciasp.sp.gov.br. The group was suspected of using forged documents and fraudulent payment vouchers to acquire machinery, equipment and household appliances from online stores.
Based on information gathered, teams from the Armed Group for the Repression of Robberies and Assaults (Garra) conducted investigations at two addresses identified as merchandise collection points.
At the first address, a man was arrested in flagrante while receiving a parcel. He had a prior criminal record for receiving stolen goods. At the second location, a woman was detained after presenting a digital document in the name of a third party to collect a package. According to the officers, she stated that she would receive payment for the service and that the package would be delivered to a former neighbour.
During the approach at this second address, the man indicated as the intended recipient of the parcel arrived at the location to collect the product and was also arrested.
"The action demonstrates that combating this type of crime requires investigation, planning and intervention at the opportune moment, making it possible to identify not only those who receive the products, but also those behind the frauds," declared Tom Blumer, delegate from Garra.
The three detainees were taken to the 42nd Police District, in Parque São Lucas, where they remained at the disposal of the Justice system.
