Neighbour detained after shooting couple dead in Federal District

João Victor Rodrigues Alves de Oliveira, 22, was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of having killed Alan Tons, 26, and Larissa Rodrigues, 23, inside the couple's own residence in Ceilândia, in the Federal District. The case is reported by g1.globo.com.

Witnesses told Military Police that they heard several gunshots at around 2:30 a.m. The bodies were found inside the house.

Suspicion fell on João Victor due to his history of conflicts with the victims. According to Civil Police, the suspect began making death threats to Alan after the latter intervened to defend the suspect's partner from episodes of domestic violence.

Upon learning that he was being sought by police, João Victor voluntarily went to a police station. However, his statements contained contradictions compared with witness accounts, which led to his arrest. The case is being investigated by the 15th Police Station.

The investigation included questioning more than eight witnesses, analysis of security camera footage, and examination of conversations and other information gathered by investigators.

The Civil Police revealed that João Victor had already been arrested twice in the same year—in March and in September—for crimes committed against his partner. He was also being investigated for possible violation of an urgent protective order.

According to the statements collected, in September the suspect allegedly threatened to kill Alan and even entered the victim's residence with a firearm. The threats were serious enough that Alan abandoned the property and temporarily went to live with relatives. He only returned after learning that João Victor had been arrested and no longer lived at the location.

Investigators also established that, even after leaving the property, João Victor remained in possession of the keys to the lot, thereby maintaining access to the place where the bodies were later found.
