During the same night, St. Gallen cantonal police identified a 15-year-old Swiss resident in the city of St. Gallen. He is accused of appearing with a knife in the vicinity of the school festival. Whether he threatened or frightened people with it is being investigated by the youth prosecutor's office. According to police, there are currently no indications that the youth intended to injure anyone. He was not arrested.
The banging noises that had been reported as gunshots came, according to the current state of investigation, almost certainly from pyrotechnic devices. Who set off the firecrackers is still unknown. Police currently rule out any connection between the youth with the knife and the banging noises.
