Pensioner Reports Suspicious Call – Suspect Caught Red-Handed

According to solothurnerzeitung.ch, an alleged bank employee contacted a pensioner in Langendorf on Monday and instructed her to withdraw several thousand francs from her bank. She was told to have the money ready to allegedly assist in uncovering fraud, according to the Solothurn Cantonal Police.

The woman was instructed to deposit the withdrawn amount at an agreed meeting point. Instead of complying with the request, she contacted the police directly, who immediately initiated measures.

During the collection of the alleged proceeds, police stopped a 19-year-old Ukrainian and detained him provisionally for further investigation.

The Solothurn Cantonal Police warned in connection with the incident about telephone fraudsters. They recommend being sceptical when receiving calls from unknown persons and not allowing yourself to be pressured. Financial information or passwords should not be shared, and cash and valuables should never be handed over to unknown persons.

Suspicious calls can be reported to the regional police station or via the emergency number 117.
