A 26-year-old defendant is standing before the Zurich district court, facing charges from the public prosecutor's office of failure to provide assistance and supplying health-endangering substances to minors. The charges stem from two deaths that occurred in his flat.
In June 2023, the man consumed various drugs together with a 15-year-old girl, including medications and cocaine. The girl lost consciousness and became unresponsive. The defendant attempted to shake her awake but did not immediately call emergency services. Instead, he contacted an acquaintance who gave him unhelpful advice, suggesting that he should be more concerned about the police. Only more than three hours later did he alert the authorities. Before doing so, he had moved the lifeless body from his flat to the stairwell.
A second incident occurred just under seven months later at the same location. An acquaintance of the defendant consumed heroin and alcohol at his flat. The man lost consciousness and died from respiratory failure. Here too, the 26-year-old is alleged to have delayed calling for help. He dragged the unconscious man into the stairwell and later fabricated a story to police about a stranger who had brought the deceased there. He claimed to have called out to this unknown man to alert the paramedics.
The prosecution is demanding a sentence of five years' imprisonment. The defence counsel will present his arguments during the trial. The defendant has previously been remanded in custody on several occasions.
