A juvenile court in the canton of Zurich has delivered its verdict in a violent assault that occurred in the Swiss metropolis. A fifteen-year-old boy has been found responsible for attacking a passerby, inflicting multiple stab wounds. The incident took place in the street and the victim, a man of Orthodox Jewish faith, received seventeen stab wounds.
The magistrate in the Dielsdorf district imposed a one-year prison sentence, suspended for placement in a therapeutic programme. The young man, whose parents are from Tunisia and who has held Swiss nationality since childhood, showed signs of radicalisation. Investigators established that he maintained links with the jihadist movement and supported the terrorist organisation known as Daesh.
In addition to attempted murder, the court found him guilty of incitement to hatred, violent propaganda and intimidation of the population. The case provoked considerable public concern and has already led to parliamentary intervention at the federal level.
