A man has wounded three people with a blade weapon at a railway station near Zurich. The suspected perpetrator is a 31-year-old Swiss national.
Cold weapon attack in Winterthur: three injured, 31-year-old Swiss man arrested
A man attacked and wounded three people with a blade weapon at Winterthur railway station, a city north-east of Zurich, on Thursday morning. The Zurich cantonal police reported that the incident took place shortly after 8:30 a.m. local time. Responding officers arrested the suspect.
According to the police report, the suspect is a 31-year-old Swiss national. The background to the attack is still being investigated. In videos that were circulated by several Swiss media outlets and on social networks, a man with long brown hair, dressed in a black T-shirt and shorts, is reported to be seen running past a group of children in front of the station whilst shouting "Allahu Akbar".
The three injured parties are aged 28, 43 and 52 and are all Swiss citizens. They were taken to hospital. The Zurich cantonal police worked with Winterthur city police, the security police of the Swiss Federal Railways, as well as with hospitals and emergency services in the arrest of the man.
