A 62-year-old woman was robbed on Basel's Münchensteinstrasse. When passers-by intervened, the perpetrator injured two men and fled. A 41-year-old man from Algeria has been arrested.

Early on Saturday morning, shortly after 7.30 a.m., a 62-year-old woman was attacked and robbed on Münchensteinstrasse in Basel. A man suddenly snatched her handbag. When several passers-by attempted to stop the robber, he became involved in a struggle with them, during which two men aged 57 and 60 years were injured.
According to a statement from the Public Prosecutor's Office Basel-Stadt, the 57-year-old had to be taken to hospital. The perpetrator initially managed to escape.
During a search operation, the Basel-Stadt cantonal police succeeded in stopping and arresting a suspect. He is a 41-year-old national of Algeria. The Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting his remand in custody pending investigation.
