Shortly before 00.30, a police patrol wanted to check a van that had been reported stolen in Bern the previous day. However, the driver evaded the check and sped away.
The man ignored the officers' stop signals whilst travelling at significantly excessive speed. Police then conducted a pursuit with blue lights and siren through several streets.
The flight finally ended at a cordon set up by the emergency services. There, officers were able to arrest the passenger at gunpoint.
An immediate search for the fleeing driver was unsuccessful. Police secured the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
