Biel victim of two violent attacks in a single night
A man was attacked twice in quick succession in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Biel, becoming a victim of physical violence on both occasions. First, a group of five men beat him, shortly afterwards two further perpetrators attacked him again.
The incidents occurred in the early morning hours on Silbergasse. At around 2.10 a.m., the Cantonal Police Bern received a report that someone had been assaulted at the roundabout on Silbergasse. Investigators believe that a group of five men approached the later victim and then subjected him to blows.
The injured party sought refuge on a nearby pavement. However, the attack continued. Two further men joined in the assault. One of the new attackers is said to have hit the man on the head with a piece of seating furniture, while the other inflicted further blows on him. Both groups then fled without a trace.
Bystanders came to the aid of the seriously injured man, provided care and called for professional help. An ambulance took him to a clinic. Regional investigators from the State Prosecutor's Office Bern Jura-Seeland are handling the case. The police are appealing for information from members of the public.
In the evening of the following day, another violent incident occurred in the Bern Jura town of Saint-Imier. A 34-year-old got into a heated dispute with two acquaintances outside a pub. During this, he was physically attacked and threatened with a blade weapon. He sought medical treatment independently. The two opponents initially fled on foot but were later traced and taken into custody.
