A 56-year-old man from Germany attempted to evade a police check in Diessenhofen and disposed of illegal items in the process.

Over the weekend, officers from the Thurgau cantonal police wanted to conduct a check on a 56-year-old foreign national in Diessenhofen. The man was travelling on an electric scooter. Instead of stopping, he accelerated and attempted to escape, according to SWI swissinfo.ch.
The pursuit ended with a fall. The fleeing man sustained minor injuries but was not stopped and continued his flight on foot. The police officers eventually caught up with him and took him into custody.
During the subsequent examination, it emerged that the man was not fit to drive. The officers therefore had blood and urine samples analysed. In addition, they established that the German did not possess the necessary driving licence category for motor vehicles.
The vehicle he was using also proved to be illegal. According to police information, the electric scooter was not approved for use on public roads. Such devices are permitted to reach a maximum speed of 20 kilometres per hour.
During the pursuit, the man had attempted to destroy incriminating evidence. He discarded a knuckleduster and drugs. The police did not disclose which substances were involved.
The arrested man will now be reported to the public prosecutor's office. He faces proceedings for violations of traffic law, narcotic drug law, and weapons law.
