Police found a 40-year-old woman dead in a detached house in Buchackern TG on Wednesday. A 53-year-old man from Germany, who is considered the ex-partner of the deceased, was at the scene. Investigators took him into custody on the spot.

According to neighbours who spoke to 20 Minuten, the suspect is said to have already had a restraining or contact order imposed on him in the previous year. Several residents also report earlier police operations at the residential property, presumably in connection with domestic violence. One neighbour said the man had not coped with the separation.

Notably, the arrested man's car was not parked directly in front of the woman's house. According to witness statements, it was discovered near a forest. Investigators suspect that the German deliberately parked the vehicle at some distance away and then walked to the crime scene.

The Thurgau cantonal police declined to comment on details for investigative reasons, such as possible earlier orders, the relationship status of the two individuals, or the exact cause of death. A spokesman merely confirmed that the two had known each other. The suspect remains in police custody for questioning. It remains unclear whether a remand application will be made.

The deceased kept a cat, which was handed over by police to a relative of the woman. The neighbourhood is deeply affected by the incident.
