Prison sentence for violence against pregnant ex-partner
Bülach district court has sentenced a 31-year-old to 30 months in prison for serious assaults against his former partner. Six months must be served in custody. The remaining 24 months remain suspended, but will apply in the event of reoffending within three years.
The offences took place between September 2022 and March 2024. The convicted man allegedly physically attacked his then-pregnant partner on multiple occasions. He is reported to have strangled her until she lost consciousness and broken one of her ribs. He was also charged with sexual coercion.
The court found him guilty on several counts, including attempted rape, sexual assault, repeated bodily harm and repeated violence. A psychiatric report confirmed the defendant had full criminal responsibility.
Evidence included testimony from the victim's sister as well as medical records from the hospital. No exclusion from Switzerland was imposed. The presiding judge emphasised at sentencing that the man must change substantially.
