As reported by polizeiwallis.ch, on Monday afternoon, 8 June 2026, two residents of Dorénaz contacted the operations centre of the Valais cantonal police — they had been targeted in a fraud attempt by fake police officers.

Based on information provided by those affected, the cantonal police immediately set up a search operation. A 25-year-old Frenchman was arrested and remanded in custody.

Later that same evening, another report came in from the municipality of Collonges. Thanks to rapid intervention by officers, an 18-year-old Romanian was arrested as the second suspected perpetrator. He is also accused of committing similar fraud offences in Saint-Séverin and Venthône. He too has been remanded in custody.

On the evening of 15 June 2026, a couple residing in Torgon fell victim to another fraud by fake police officers. Following a rapid alert, the cantonal police arrested three further suspected perpetrators: an 18-year-old Spaniard, a 20-year-old Frenchman, and a 21-year-old Swiss national. All three have been remanded in custody.

The public prosecutor's office has initiated investigations in the various cases. The presumption of innocence applies to the accused persons at the present time.
