Arrests following fraud schemes involving fake police officers in Valais
The Valais cantonal police arrested five alleged fraudsters in June who are said to have posed as police officers. According to bluewin.ch, the arrests were made on two different days in several municipalities of the canton.
On 8 June, two residents of Dorénaz reported an attempted fraud, whereupon the authorities arrested a 25-year-old Frenchman. Later that same day, another report came in from Collonges – officers arrested an 18-year-old Romanian there. He is also accused of similar offences in the localities of Saint-Séverin and Venthône.
A week later, on 15 June, a couple in Torgon alerted police after becoming victims of fraud. Officers then arrested three further suspects: an 18-year-old Spaniard, a 20-year-old Frenchman, and a 21-year-old Swiss national.
All five men are in pre-trial detention. The public prosecutor has initiated investigations in the respective cases. The presumption of innocence applies.
