In San Vittore (GR), police officers arrested a 50-year-old Romanian who was acting as a courier for fraudsters. Unknown individuals had previously contacted an 82-year-old by telephone and persuaded him to withdraw a large sum of money from his bank.
However, the elderly man saw through the scheme and informed the Graubünden cantonal police on the same day. Officers then organised a fake handover, during which they apprehended the suspected intermediary.
Investigations by the cantonal police and the public prosecutor's office are ongoing. They are clarifying the exact circumstances of the attempted fraud. Authorities are calling on senior citizens to be suspicious of telephone calls with financial demands and to contact the police.
