A physical altercation took place in the vicinity of Altstätten railway station on Wednesday afternoon. A 26-year-old Afghan man, who is housed at the federal asylum centre (FAC) in the city, sustained serious injuries.
Investigators have concluded that the other people involved in the incident also come from the same asylum centre. This assumption had previously been raised in a parliamentary motion and has now been confirmed.
Despite the incident, police do not classify the railway station area as a problem zone. The authorities initially provided no information about possible arrests or the exact sequence of events.
