Domestic violence in Aargau: Woman threatens man with death – two convictions
In the Zurzach district, the public prosecutor's office convicted a woman of threats and assault against her husband. A second case from Baden involves a man who spat on his wife and struck her head against a mirror.
Two penalty notices for partner violence in Zurzach and Baden
As badenertagblatt.ch reports, the public prosecutor's offices Brugg-Zurzach and Baden have issued legally binding penalty notices in two separate cases of domestic violence – one against a woman, one against a man.
In winter 2025, a Swiss woman in her late 40s with a migration background from the Zurzach district struck her husband several times with a broom and a hairbrush. The man sustained multiple scratches on his arms and legs. When police intervened shortly afterwards, the woman threatened in the presence of the officers that she wanted to kill her husband in Brazil. According to the penalty notice, the husband took the threat seriously and feared she could harm him personally or commission someone to do so.
The Brugg-Zurzach public prosecutor's office convicted the woman of multiple counts of assault and threats to a suspended fine of 30 daily rates of 30 francs each, as well as a fine of 750 francs. Including penalty notice fees, the total costs amount to 1550 francs. The judgment will be entered in the criminal register.
The second case occurred in April of this year in the Baden district. A Swiss man in his mid-50s initially became involved in a verbal argument with his wife, then spat on her, grabbed her by the throat, and struck her head against a mirror. The Baden public prosecutor's office convicted him of assault. After crediting one day of pre-trial detention, the fine was reduced to 200 francs; including procedural fees, the case cost him approximately 600 francs. His wife's claim for compensation was referred to civil proceedings.
Women are recorded as accused in domestic violence cases significantly less frequently than men. However, the penalty notice from the Zurzach district shows that they can also be held criminally accountable for assaults on their partner.
