Jacques Moretti remanded in custody over domestic violence – wife hospitalised
The bar owner from Crans-Montana was re-arrested in mid-August according to SRF. His wife Jessica had to be admitted to hospital.
Moretti remanded in custody again – lawyers confirm incident
Jacques Moretti, bar owner from Crans-Montana, has been remanded in custody following an incident at his private home. According to SRF's report, citing the western Swiss broadcaster "Léman Bleu", he was arrested in mid-August. His wife Jessica Moretti was subsequently admitted to hospital. It is currently unclear whether she remains there. Jacques Moretti is presumed innocent.
The lawyers for the couple confirmed in a written statement that an incident recently occurred at the Morettis' home. They declined to provide further details: the recent events concerned solely the couple's private life. At the same time, the lawyers emphasised that these events should not be linked to the fire disaster in Crans-Montana.
Béatrice Pilloud, the prosecutor general of Valais, also commented to the news agency Keystone-SDA: the prosecution generally does not communicate in cases of domestic violence.
The Morettis are already facing prosecution in connection with the fire at the "Le Constellation" bar. On New Year's Day, 41 people died in the blaze, and over 100 others were injured. Both are under investigation for involuntary manslaughter, involuntary arson and involuntary grievous bodily harm – Jessica Moretti is additionally under investigation for forgery. They are among a total of 16 suspects in this proceedings.
Jacques Moretti was already taken into remand custody in January, but since the end of January has been free after paying bail. Since then he was subject to a ban on leaving the country and a daily reporting requirement at a police station – measures that were extended for three months in early August.
