The Portuguese twin sisters Leila and Laila Lourenço, both aged 22, will remain in remand custody in a Geneva prison for a minimum period of three months. This is the time needed by the public prosecutor's office of this Swiss canton to establish the charge sheet in the criminal procedure concerning the two young women.
The arrests took place on 24 June at Geneva airport, where the sisters made their second stopover during a journey departing from Bangkok, Thailand, and destined for Lisbon. During baggage control of the two passengers, airport authorities discovered several dozen kilograms of cannabis, which led to their immediate arrest.
Currently, Leila and Laila Lourenço are incarcerated in a Geneva correctional facility and can now receive visits from family members as well as their lawyers.
